Health and Safety in Mongolia

International terrorism and crime in general is constantly in the news, you may be wondering whether Mongolia is a safe country. Our experience is that it is safe in the countryside where we go.  local people are very friendly and generous. Ulaanbaatar has its dodgy areas, but no more than any big city. There are pick pockets in Ulaanbaatar, but as long as you don’t have wads of cash in your pockets and keep your wits about you, it’s not a problem.

What emergency back-up do we provide if something goes wrong?

We travel in remote areas, so we take your health and safety seriously. We do everything in our power to avoid accidents, but they can happen, and it may be some time before you can get adequate hospital treatment in the event of an emergency. Our trip leaders are medically trained, and will provide care to the best of their abilities until you are able to reach a hospital.

It is vital that you have your own comprehensive travel insurance which should include repatriation.

What insurance companies can I use?

Most standard travel policies will cover you for general horse riding, and travel by cars. We suggest describing to a potential insurance company exactly what you will be doing during the itinerary (including whether you intend wearing a helmet or not).

Do I need to wear a hard hat?

We do not require you to wear a hat, and we do not provide them. However your insurance policy may have something to say about this. Check the small print to see whether you are still covered in the event of an accident if not wearing a hat. We suggest that if you feel more comfortable riding in a hat, bring one along and wear it at least initially until you are familiar with your horse.

Is the water safe to drink?

In remote areas you can drink the water straight from the streams.  We  provide boiled and bottled water each day . You may like to bring water purifier tablets with you so you can treat your own drinking water.

Marion's Trip

video

"My husband and I were dreaming about going to Mongolia, and when we finally decided to travel there, we looked for a tour and met Jilly and Ider.

We really wanted to have a real experience of Mongolia, off the beaten track, just a true encounter with the people. Our dreams were more than fulfilled as we spent 10 amazing days traveling with the incredible Jilly and Ider. Ider being Mongolian, and Jilly working there, we were in the best conditions to meet people, and learn about the country at the same time. These guys did everything to have us see the most of the country, and we did. We went to places were tour operators would never have taken us, and we met their friends along the way. After 10 days of laughter, and life sharing, Jilly and Ider became our friends.

We recommend this trip to all the nature and life lovers out there !
